Ardèche : Swimming
The Ardèche rivers have many beautiful areas where you can swim in clear, fresh, clean water.
Although a lot of accommodation in the Ardèche comes with a swimming pool you shouldn't visit the region and restrict yourself to swimming only in swimming pools. There are hundreds of beautiful places to swim in the Ardèche - small mountain rivers with deep pools and lined with smooth rocks to sunbathe on (see photo), wide stretches of the Ardèche river with sandy beaches and long, deep, slow-moving swimming holes, warm shallows ideal for small children and well-visited swimming areas with riverside cafes and restaurants.
In mid-summer the well-known swimming areas in the vicinity of Vallon Pont D'Arc become quite crowded but there are hundreds of kilometres of accessible river frontage in the Ardèche and there is no reason to stay where the crowds are if you prefer a quieter, more isolated spot.
You can go to a different spot everyday and enjoy the warm water and wonderful scenery.
